The profitability of overall operation shall be increased by optimizing existing plants. There are various approaches:
- enhance fuel spectrum (water content, ash content, calorific value range, etc.) to reduce fuel costs,
- increase performance in terms of fuel throughput and / or steam output,
- reduction of CO and NOx emissions to meet increasing regulatory and social demands,
- reduction of consumables and additives used for the SNCR, flue gas cleaning, etc.,
- increase of the load change rate to minimize steam losses in variable processes, and
- reduction of losses in order to increase the efficiency and thus reduce CO2 emissions.
The measures range from mechanical modifications and parameter settings (e.g. controllers) to revising control philosophies or combustion control systems, and they are independent of the combustion technology.
